Exeter city councillors have approved a plan to trial community toilets in the city centre.
Under the scheme, businesses volunteer to join, display a small notice and allow members of the public to use their facilities.
A similar successful scheme is operated in Oxford and the council believe it can be adapted for Exeter.
If the city centre trial is a success, it is planned to expand the plan to other areas.
