Millions of pounds earmarked
Aldi has announced plans to build a new, larger food store in Cullompton, which will cost around £7 million.
The proposed site, on Exeter Hill, would replace the existing store, which the retailer says is no longer able to meet growing customer demand.
The new store is planned opposite where the current site is and the retailer promises a significantly improved shopping experience, with extra parking facilities, more electric vehicle charging points, bicycle parking and improved pedestrian access.
The upgraded store is set to feature wider aisles, which is designed to create a more accessible environment for both customers and staff.
The site pledges to meet Aldi’s latest sustainability standards, including rooftop solar panels, LED lighting throughout, and air source heat pumps for better energy efficiency.
All current staff will transfer to the new store, and around 10 additional jobs will be created.
Aldi has launched a virtual public exhibition to share details of the proposals and invite local feedback until 17 August 2025.
Feedback can be submitted via the project website, email or freephone. A full Statement of Community Involvement will accompany the planning application to Mid Devon District Council.
The company says the move to Exeter Hill underlines its commitment to continued investment in Cullompton and will ensure residents have better access to its award-winning range of affordable, high-quality products.
There is also a consultation for new stores in Exmouth and Ivybridge.
