Partnership launches 'Pollinators' Pledge'

A campaign's been launched to boost the population of bees and other pollinators in Devon. Owners of gardens, allotments, fields and wasteland are urged to take action.

Concerns have been raised in recent years about the decline in the bee population which is vital to food production. If plants had to be pollinated through other means, the cost of fruit and vegetables could rise sharply.
That's why the Devon Local Nature Partnership is asking local residents to sign a pledge and commit to actions which could include planting bee and butterfly-friendly flowers, create wildflower meadows, and avoid using pesticides.
Last month Devon County Council agreed to stop using bee-harming pesticides on its land - which includes parks, roadside verges and school grounds.
