Eight day centres used by elderly people in Exeter, mid and east Devon look set to close.
The county council says fewer people are using the centres these days and there are better ways of providing the services they offer.
It's begun a consultation on proposals to shut down Bodley House and Millbrook in Exeter, Davey Court and Copperfields in Exmouth, St Lawrence and Chambers in Crediton, St Michaels in Honiton and Charlton Lodge in Tiverton.
Nichols in Exeter and Newholme in Honiton will stay open under the proposals, and two others in Tiverton, Old Bartows and Old Bakery, will merge.
