Businesses in Crediton are anticipating a big loss in trade when the whole High Street is closed to traffic for four weeks, so that South West Water can replace collapsing sewers.
The work begins on January 25th.
South West Water met local traders and councillors earlier this week to reassure them that the work would be done as quickly as possible, and special access arrangements could be made for deliveries.
Businesses are hoping local residents will support them by buying local during the expected drop in passing trade.
