It's a construction site
Work is underway to reconnect the A379 between Slapton and Strete Gate, which has been closed since being washed away by Storm Emma in early March.
The warning comes after part of the 1.8m-high metal perimeter fence was removed over the weekend and approximately 40 people cycled down the closed highway.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Management said: “The highway is currently a construction site and it's cordoned off for a reason, to ensure public safety.
“If you enter a construction site you risk injury and the damaged road could be particularly hazardous for cyclists as it likely to be scarred with trenches and other hazards.”
“We are working with the Slapton Line Partnership, local organisations, the community and landowners to reinstate the A379 and we are doing everything possible to complete these works quickly to limit the unavoidable disruption caused by the closure of the road.”
