Students from Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education marched to County Hall and met up with councillors for celebratory cake
The National Census revealed that Exeter has the fourth highest proportion of sign language users in the country.
But the students were able to say what they would like to see the council doing - which includes being more deaf-aware, using sign language, and employing deaf people within the local authority.
