Decision to scrap controversial Uni ball is challenged

The organisers of Exeter University's Safer Sex Ball are challenging the decision by the Guild of Students to scrap it.

The Guild said they could  no longer support the event after CCTV footage was leaked, showing two students engaged in a sex act in a University bar, during the ball in December.

But the Raising and Giving or RAG committee, who organise the ball, say the Guild's proposal to develop an alternative and equally exciting event is naive.. and are pointing out that an outside promoter could take over the ball anyway.

They say it's a hugely popular and successful event which raises a lot of money for a sexual health charity - and they'll be seeking student support for running it again next year.
