Devon businesses hit as fuel costs rise

Garage makes 8p a litre from £2.12 pump price

A Totnes garage owner, competing with national brands, is making just eight pence per litre of diesel on his pump price which has hit £2.12.

Brian Heath, who owns Blue Post Garage at Totnes, has little choice but to pass on the rising costs of fuel to his customers.

Prices have hit record highs as a consequence of the war in Ukraine.

Plymouth haulage firm Fergusons has seen the cost of filling a tanker with diesel rise by £10,000 a week.

They're investing in new vehicles and looking at ways of managing costs, but the business environment is tricky.
