Devon gets a Cornwall football club

Truro City will play at Torquay's ground

It's only a 200-mile round trip, so what's that if you're a die-hard fan?

Truro City FC told fans on Monday that this season, beginning on 4 August, they'll be playing home games at Plainmoor, home of Torquay United. Their own ground. Treyew Road, is being turned into a supermarket and Lidl want to get cracking. Truro's explained to supporters: "It's short-term pain for long-term gain" and that they understand the "temporary move may be unpopular." They'll subsidise coach travel between the two counties, and have offered anyone who's bought a season ticket their money back if they don't want to watch Truro in Torquay. They also say they're "taking one almighty leap towards getting a state-of-the-art stadium" in Truro. They'll share that with the county's leading rugby team the Cornish Pirates.

Following Torquay's relegation to National League South, both football teams are now in the same division. For its part, Torquay United FC's chairman Clarke Osborne says he welcomes Truro and their supporters, although it will be double the work for their stadium team. He says: "It will be a good experience for the operation of a multi-event arena that we hope will be the home of Torquay United in the not too distant future."
