Newton Abbot Hospital assesses raised temperature
A Devon hospital is piloting thermal imaging technology on all patients and staff in a bid to keep the hospital coronavirus free.
Newton Abbot Hospital has begun trialling new technology which aims to detect anyone with a raised temperature, one of the key symptoms of the virus.
It is one of the first places in the country where the technology is being trialled and aims to ensure that the hospital is kept ‘COVID-19’ free so that patients can continue to access important treatment.
Thermal imaging scanners, normally used in researching building sustainability, will be used on all patients and staff entering Newton Abbot Community Hospital to help to detect anyone with a raised temperature.
A spokesman for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust says: “This is just one of many measures being taken to keep patients and staff safe. Other measures include – social distancing, all staff in clinical / public areas wear face masks and regular testing of all staff on site.
“If you do require treatment or you have been asked to come in for an appointment at any of our Trust sites we have safety measures in place to keep you safe, please don’t delay as your care is important.”
