Devon to receive more flood clean-up funding

Further emergency funding from the Government is to be awarded to Devon county council to help pay for flood damage caused in September and December last year.

The council expects to receive around two and a half million pounds in what's called Bellwin funding -  it can be used for clean-up costs and temporary patching-up work, but not road repairs which are classed as capital spending.

The council have welcomed the money but say it will only cover a fraction of the whole cost .. and they're calling on the government to change the rules on Bellwin funding to include permanent repairs.

Grant aid for some of the other floods last year has already been agreed and the council will be sending a bill of one point seven million pounds to the Government.
