Devon two years late in receiving rural broadband

Devon's Federation of Small Businesses has expressed disappointment at the news that the roll-out of superfast broadband in the county is running nearly two years late.

Forty-four rural areas were due to be connected by 2015 but only nine will be.

The National Audit Office has criticised the Government over the delay in the programme and also expressed concern about the lack of competition -

BT will be the only firm likely to win contracts and is likely to benefit from one point two billion pounds in public funds as a result.

Meanwhile local business leaders say the county's economy is suffering from slow broadband speeds in rural areas.
