Disposal bins for drug needles are to be introduced in Exeter city centre. It's one of a range of measures to tackle drug use and anti-social behaviour.
Earlier this year businesses in the area near the Corn Exchange and the top of Fore Street handed in a petition to the city council - saying the levels of rough sleeping, drug taking and aggressive behaviour in the area was seriously damaging trade.
In response the Community Safety Partnership has outlined the work being done to tackle these problems - which include the piloting of disposal bins for hypodermic syringes in three city centre locations, and the creation of the Street Attachment Group which has reduced rough sleeping and worked with police to tackle anti-social behaviour.
The partnership also calls on businesses to support the city council's proposed Public Space Protection Order which would enable police to take more action against users of psychoactive substances in the designated area.
