The flag will be replaced by a union flag at Exeter's council HQ
The European Union flag has been removed from outside Exeter's Civic Centre, ahead of Brexit tomorrow night [31 January].
The City Council usually fly seven flags outside their offices in Southernhay – one for every European town the city is affiliated with, a union flag, and the twelve-starred flag of the European Union.
But today the city was only flying six, despite Britain not leaving the EU until 11pm on Friday night.
In a statement, Exeter City Council said: “The EU flag has been removed from the flagpole outside the civic centre in line with the UK leaving the EU.
“The flag will be replaced by a union flag and the EU flag will be preserved at the Guildhall.”
Six members of the European Parliament currently represent the West Country.
