Six police staff have been suspended, as the investigation into the death of an Exeter man following his arrest and detention in custody continues.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission have submitted a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, on the circumstances leading up to the death of 32 year old Thomas Orchard.
They say it's a criminal investigation.
The church caretaker was arrested at the High Street/Paris Street junction on October 3rd last year on suspicion of a public order offence... he was later taken from police custody at Heavitree Road to the RD&E hospital, where he died a week later.
The IPCC say the evidence relates specifically to one officer and the level of force used during the arrest... but they recommended that six officers and members of custody staff should be put on restricted duties.
