The wing-back joins from Stockport County
Exeter City Football Club has announced the signing of Ryan Rydel on loan from Stockport County.
The 24-year-old can operate as a dynamic and creative presence as a left-wing-back and arrives in Devon for the 2024/25 season as Gary Caldwell’s third signing of the summer transfer window, after Johnly Yfeko made a permanent move and Luca Woodhouse joined last week.
Rydel has played a key role in the Hatters’ recent successes, helping the club secure promotions from both the National League and League Two.
Over the course of five seasons, he made 104 appearances, contributing six goals and 14 assists.
He began his career with Fleetwood Town as a youngster and turned professional with the Lancashire side at the age of 17, and also had a short loan spell at Lancaster City.
Manager Caldwell said: “Ryan is someone we believe is proven at this level and I watched him recently in the play-off semi-final and was brilliant in the game and changed the game."
“We believe he is an out and out full-back as well as wing-back who can cover the whole left side of the pitch, which is something we have not had at the club for a while in terms of being able to defend and attack."
“We are really thankful to Stockport for loaning him to us as we know he will be a big asset to us this season. And we have got him for the full season because there is no recall clause in the contract.”
