Exeter's RD&E hospital has received glowing praise in a report by the Care Quality Commission - which inspected it in November.
The hospital's emergency department and critical care services were both rated outstanding, and the standard of patient care was consistently found to be good.
The CQC's head of hospital inspections Mary Cridge says the outcomes for patients were also excellent.
