Exeter's Neighbourhood Police Team are looking for information after a surge in incidents of graffiti at Exeter Quay.
Officers say some are "of a threatening nature or with strong political messages."
In a post on Facebook, PCSO Turner says he recently "attended with the council’s dedicated graffiti team, who had been working since the early hours on one particularly large piece. After considering the cost of manpower, fuel, water and chemicals, each piece of graffiti can easily cost in excess of £100 to clean away. There is of course the further damage done to the local community, visitors and those individually targeted by the graffiti."
The police team is recording "tags", a signature used by some some graffiti artists, so if they identify a suspect, they face prosecution for multiple criminal damage offences. PCSO Turner says he is "hopeful that recent community support and CCTV will help with our investigations."
To contact the police during this busy summer period, please try to email 101@dc.police.uk or use webchat before calling 101. In an emergency always call 999. Alternatively, you can contact us the local neighbourhood team directly at exeter@dc.police.uk.
