Darrell Rose will serve at least 15 years
A man who murdered his partner will serve at least 15 years in prison.
Darrell Rose, who's 36, strangled Geraldine Mellor at her home in Alphington Road, Exeter, in January this year, and left the property within seconds.
Mr Rose had pleaded not guilty at his trial at Exeter Crown Court, claiming he'd acted in self-defence after his girlfriend attacked him with a motorcycle helmet.
Police say Ms Mellor, 32, was a fun-loving, spirited young woman who was loved by her family and is sorely missed - and that the enquiry was complex and emotive.
It's understood that both Mr Rose and Ms Mellor had mental health issues. They'd been in a relationship for less than a year at the time of Ms Mellor's death.
Police say they're satisfied with the outcome of the case.
