Parade blaze is small but deliberate
A fire at a shop in Exmouth on Sunday afternoon is being treated as arson.
Two appliances from Exmouth, one from Middlemoor and the aerial ladder platform were mobilised to the blaze in the rear of a shop on the Parade in the town centre.
The fire, just after 2pm, in the basement of the three storey building is said to be small and was put out using a single hose reel jet. One thermal imaging camera, small tools and a gas monitor were also used to ensure the scene was safe.
Shops on The Parade and nearby Strand seem to experience fires relatively frequently. In 2016, long-established business Panters had a fire. A few months earlier, the Consol tanning salon got more than the tanning it expected and was subsequently closed for many months.
In 2010, a fire that started at Bargains Galore spread to the nearby Conservative Club, a sports club and adjoining flats. It took more than a hundred firefighters to put it out.
