The Dacia car, which was being driven by a 47-year-old man, was in collision with a pedestrian on the A382, Newton Road, Bovey Tracey.
The 37-year-old pedestrian, who lived in Bovey Tracey, died at the scene. Police say his next of kin are aware and are being supported by a Family Liaison Officer.
Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team are investigating the collision and would ask that anyone with information contact the Police on 101 quoting the log number 147 of 6th October 2018.
