The Fire Brigades Union says it hopes Devon and Somerset's fire authority will listen to their concerns when members vote next week on changes to the way some stations are staffed.
This week the fire service said it would have to make eight million pounds of savings by 2016 and would shed 40 back office posts.
It comes on top of the £5.5million reduction in funding which will be addressed by the proposed cuts, to be voted on by the Fire Authority next week.
The FBU says the final financial settlements beyond 2015 haven't been set out by government yet and described this announcement as premature.
