Businesses urged to work together
Barnstaple businesses are being encouraged to sign up for a free online tool to help tackle retail crime.
The portal allows them to easily report incidents like theft and anti-social behaviour, and share information with the police.
It's a 12-month free subscription to UK Partners Against Crime, funded by the Crime Commissioner's office.
Almost 90 businesses have already signed up across Devon and Cornwall.
Tim Roberts, who owns a Spar shop in Barnstaple, says, "I would encourage all retailers to join and existing members in Barnstaple to register.
I'm already seeing the benefits, with known offenders being identified and refused entry from my stores, and the more retailers that join, the more effective this scheme will be."
A similar pilot program was recently launched in Torbay and led to two successful convictions, with improvements seen within just a few months.
It's hoped more free trials will be available across Devon and Cornwall in the coming months.
The UKPAC system aims to empower our business communities with an easy way to report issues directly to the police.
This collaboration will help officers tackle bad behaviour and improve community safety.
