Further criticism for streetlamps switch-off plan

The plan to switch off many of Exeter's street lights after 12.30 am is coming under fire again... as a series of public meetings begins this week on the proposal.

The county council say the lighting system will be remotely controlled so that those which are turned off can be re-activated by remote control by the police, in the case of an emergency.

But Labour councillor Paul Bull, who represents the Cowick ward, says to his knowledge the police haven't yet been fully briefed on how this would work.

And he thinks it's also a mistake to introduce the switch-off all over Exeter at the same time - believing it should be brought in gradually.
