Three suggested routes have been put forward for improving a section of the A30 and A303 between Honiton and Ilminster. A public consultation on the proposals begins today.
The three schemes on the drawing board would all cost 170 million pounds and replace a five-mile stretch of single carriageway between the Honiton bypass and the Devonshire Inn junction.
It currently has sharp bends, steep gradients, poor visibility and a lack of safe places to overtake, which leads to congestion and accidents.
The plan is to replace it with a three lane carriageway offering better capacity and places to overtake in both directions.
The three routes can be seen on the county council's website, on leaflets available at libraries, and at a series of public exhibitions starting tomorrow at the Honiton Show.
