An electric blanket caused a fire at a house in Exeter's Pennyslvania Road in the early hours of this morning - which led to the elderly occupant being taken to hospital.
Three fire crews were called out at around 4.30am.
They found the house full of smoke, and a small fire in a first floor bedroom.
The elderly person in the house needed hospital treatment for the effects of breathing in smoke.
