Emergency medical services are urging local residents to think twice before calling 999 or turning up at A&E over Christmas.
The South West Ambulance Service says it received an unprecedented number of calls over the weekend... and Exeter's under-pressure RD&E hospital is failing to meet the target for seeing all A&E patients within four hours.
The emergency services are asking people to use other options such as the NHS 111 service or visiting a pharmacy, unless they really do need urgent medical attention.
