Fire crews from across Devon and Somerset work through night on blaze
A fire at a thatched property near Sowton has taken much of the night to put out and has almost completely destroyed the building.
Fifteen fire engines from six stations across Exeter and East began working on the fire since it broke out at half past six last night. The owners had called to report their roof on fire.
Smoke could be seen across a large part of East Devon, out towards Exeter Airport.
By half past one in the morning, although steady progress was being made, relief crews from across Devon and Somerset were put in place.
Water had to be pumped from a nearby steam to an aerial platform. They’ve been damping down through the early hours. There’s no report of any injuries.
