Mini Market ignores warnings

A shop in North Devon has been ordered to close for three months for continuing to sell illegal tobacco.

Last year, police sniffer dogs uncovered secret supplies in a concealed basement at the Ilfracombe mini-market on the hjgh street.

The illegal substance had a value of around £2,000, and the business was warned about its conduct.

Despite the visit and seizure, intelligence suggested the activity continued, and in February of this year, officers carried out a covert test purchase and ordered the premises to shut.

The store is the fifth location to be closed by the South West Trading Standards and local offices in the last month, with an average of two shops a month having been closed over the last year.

Operations manager for the South West Trading Standards, Alex Fry, said this “business had already been warned yet continues to sell illegal tobacco. We're working with police to continue to take action where this kind of activity is present to protect local communities and legitimate companies.”
