Exeter not appropriate for such entertainment, says council
Exeter’s only lap dancing club has been stripped of its licence by the city council.
The Eden Lounge on Fore Street didn’t get approval to continue with exotic dances because of a change of council policy. A committee sais a nearby Methodist Church made it an unsuitable place for a strip club - and there are no areas in the city appropriate for a sexual entertainment licence.
Exeter’s Labour and Green parties supported a petition against the club, which collected more than a hundred signatures. Four hundred women supported a petition organised by the club. The police said they had no concerns about the venue, and there have been no instances of abuse linked to it.
