Polling stations across the county reported a quiet day yesterday with few people turning out to vote.
Across Devon the turnout was about 15 per cent.
In Exeter 15.44 per cent of the electorate turned out to vote; in East and Mid Devon, and Teignbridge, it was more than 16 per cent.
Counting will start at 11am in Cornwall, with the result expected later today.
But critics of the election say the low numbers of people who have cast a vote will undermine the mandate of whoever is elected.
