A car was discovered in a ditch on the A381 near Malborough.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called out to the incident on Tuesday 5th February at 5.15pm
The man was checked over by paramedics but didn't need to go to hospital.
He told police he had swerved to avoid an octopus.
A 49-year-old man from Salcombe was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs/drink.
He remains in custody in Torquay.
