Armed units and the police helicopter were involved in the search.
Police say a man was tasered after an incident in Exeter last night.
Emergency services were called and a missing person enquiry started after concern was raised for the welfare of a 25-year-old local man at around 4.45pm.
The search included support from the police helicopter (pictured over St Thomas at 8pm) and armed officers.
The man was found near the Sawyers on Cowick Street at around 8.15pm.
In a statement, police said "Officers discharged a taser and the man was detained. He was taken into hospital for treatment and was left in the care of mental health professionals."
