Third woman to hold the role
History was made at Exeter Cathedral this weekend as Right Reverend Moira Astin was welcomed as the new Bishop of Crediton.
In a special installation service on July 6th, Bishop Alton became the third woman in a row to hold the position, a first for the Church of England – according to the Diocese of Exeter.
The ceremony, which was streamed online, was led by Dame Sarah Mullally, the first female Bishop of Crediton serving the people of North Devon, Mid Devon, and East Devon.
Bishop Astin brings decades of practical experience in ministry to her new role, and she's also a published author and natural teacher.
As the Bishop of Crediton, she'll be quite busy. She'll be leading and supporting the churches in her area, which includes things like leading services, confirming people, and ordaining new priests.
She'll also be involved in the wider community, working on rural issues like poverty and transportation.
