Charity warns of spike
The RSPCA is dealing with more calls regarding abandoned pets in Devon compared to Cornwall.
The animal charity is issuing warnings ahead of the winter after both counties saw big rises in the past year, which they say is mainly down to the cost-of-living crisis and post-lockdown pressures.
So far this year in Devon, 362 incidents of dumped or abandoned animals were raised through the charity's emergency line, compared to 315 reported the year before.
In Cornwall, 205 calls were made, up from 146 the previous year, marking a 40.4% increase.
The charity believes the colder nights pose a fatal risk to dumped animals.
This mirrors a national trend as cases have risen by almost 23% across the board.
An urgent appeal has been launched in the hope of raising vital funds for frontline officers.
