A 70-year-old woman found dead at home
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Newton Poppleford.
Police were called to a report of a concern for welfare for a woman at an address on Lark Rise, Newton Poppleford, at around 1.15pm, on Friday 17 January.
Officers and paramedics attended, and a 70-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate her next of kin.
Detective Inspector Paula Trevett said: “Officers are carrying out enquiries into this very sad case to establish what happened and a cordon have been set up to allow for a thorough investigation of the scene.
“It is believed that the man and the woman were known to each other.
“I would like to reassure the community that this is being treated as an isolated incident and at this time we are not seeking anyone else in connection to the death.
“Members of the public will see an increased police presence in the area, and we would encourage anyone, if they have any concerns, to contact officers from the local neighbourhood policing team.”
A 67-year-old man from the Newton Poppleford area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.
