The 66-bed home drew unanimous backing from councillors
City council planners on Monday night unanimously backed the proposals that would see Barchester Healthcare build the care home on land west of Cumberland Way, opposite the Exeter College Technology Centre.
Communal, therapy and dining rooms will be provided, as well as offices for staff and a café on the ground floor, and the facility will employ 40 full-time staff and 20 part-time staff, councillors were told.
The committee were told that no members of the public had either objected or supported the scheme, but Cllr David Harvey said that people he had spoken to were in favour of the plans.
Cllr Rachel Lyons said: “I like the look of this. We need more of this sort of accommodation in the city.”
The plans were unanimously approved by the council.
