The Dartmoor Beast supports Hospiscare
A new event taking place on Sunday 27 September will bring two new running routes to Dartmoor.
Starting and finishing at the Okehampton Community and Recreation Association, The Dartmoor Beast is an event that 'promises an unforgettable test of endurance, grit, and determination.'
The event will include two new routes:
The Beast - a 20-mile challenge across the high moor
The Wee Beastie - A shorter, 14-mile route.
Both courses take in open moorland, woodland trails, river crossings, and bogs. There are also steep climbs, including the ascent to High Willhays, the highest point in southern England.
There is 3,399 feet of elevation on the longer route, and 2,224 on the shorter option.
Hospiscare have said that 'participants will enjoy a fully supported, chip-timed experience, with aid stations along the route. All finishers will be rewarded with a metal medal - and a well-earned traditional Devon cream tea at the finish line. Prizes will also be awarded to the fastest male and female runners.'
The event will raise vital funds to support specialist end-of-life care for patients and families across Exeter, central and east Devon, including North Dartmoor. Entry fees start from £27, with places limited for this inaugural year.
In addition, £2 of each entry will go directly to the Dartmoor National Park Authority to help protect the moor’s landscapes and maintain access to its trails.
Martin Stokke, Race Director for Hospiscare, said:
“The Dartmoor Beast is an exciting addition to the South West’s running calendar. It combines the raw beauty of Dartmoor with a tough physical challenge, all while raising vital funds for Hospiscare. Whether you are looking to take your fitness to new heights or hoping to be one of very first to conquer The Dartmoor Beast, this event is not to be missed.”
