Work's due to begin later this year on a new cycle trail linking the Exe Estuary pathway with Killerton House.
It's hoped the eight-mile pathway will be used for both commuting and recreation.
East Devon district council is hoping to win Rural Development Agency funding for the section running from Clyst St Mary to the Estuary Trail at Dart’s Farm.
There are longer-term plans to extend the trail to link Pinhoe to the Exeter Skypark.
