Fire safety measures in council flats in East Devon are being upgraded after a mattress was set alight in a communal hallway of a residential block in Honiton.
Police and the fire service are investigating the blaze in January - in which luckily no-one was hurt.
Residents are already banned from putting any items in communal areas - the council is now also improving rubbish bin storage areas and updating emergency lighting in its properties.
