The new road will cut through the town's Houghton Barton development area.
Teignbridge District Council planners have given the go ahead for Devon County Council’s plans to build across from the A382 to the A383.
The proposed connection is considered ‘critical’ in addressing the increase in traffic as a result of the proposed developments around Newton Abbot, particularly around Ashburton Road, Dyrons roundabout, Whitehills roundabout and Exeter Road.
The road will have a 30mph speed limit and has an opening date of 2021 listed in the report.
