French energy company EDF needs to talk to Chinese partners before making announcement about Hinkley Point
Creation of new jobs in Exeter are uncertain because of doubts about financial the new nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset.
Six thousand new positions are expected to be created across the south west if the facility goes ahead. But it's thought a financial decision due to be made by EDF, which owns the plant, yesterday, wasn't made. Lower electricity prices and volatility in the financial markets are thought to have caused further delays.
Tim Jones, who's chairman of Devon and Cornwall Business Council, told Radio Exe they're working hard to ensure that the plans go ahead. "It's worth £2 billion to the region. Exeter's got many unique skills in professional services, telecommunications and digital particularly. Colleges and training providers have been building the skills base in anticipation too."
