Tributes to nature presenter
TV presenter Johnny Kingdom has died after an incident involving a digger that is believed to have overturned on his land at Wadham Cross, Knowstone near South Molton, just before 9pm on Thursday evening.
Mr Kingdom, who was 79, was a popular presenter of nature programmes, and had released a series of his own videos, mainly exploring the countryside around Exmoor. Renowned for his infectious enthusiastic presentation style, he'd come to television relatively late in life, after earlier earning a living digging graves.
His television success enabled him to buy land in North Devon, of which he was immeasurably proud. Colleagues and viewers have been paying tribute to him since news broke that he was the person involved in the emergency on Thursday.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding his death. Mr Kingdom's agent HK Management announced his death, saying "he will be greatly missed."
Mr Kingdom's family say: "Johnny would want you all to continue with his love for Exmoor as you all meant so much to him. As the loving man would have said: 'Farewell to all you lovely people.'"
