The line was closed between Tiverton and Taunton on Monday night.
Trains have returned to normal this morning (Tuesday 4th February) after being disrupted for much of last night (Monday 3rd February).
In a statement, British Transport Police say they were "called at 5.40pm on 03/02 to an area of railway in Taunton following a report of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the person came to be on the tracks."
Some bus replacements were in place, and passengers have been told their tickets will be accepted today.
