Further measures to protect and replenish the disappearing sands of Dawlish Warren, and safeguard the Exe Estuary against climate change, have been agreed by local councillors.
Teignbridge's Executive committee have given their support to a strategy drawn up by the Environment Agency, local authorities and Network Rail, designed to manage the risk of flooding and coastal erosion in the estuary.
The strategy includes work to dredge sand from the mouth of the Exe and deposit it on the Warren and Exmouth beaches... this will also protect the Dawlish Warren sand spit, a natural coastal defence which helps protect communities along the estuary.. and the railway line.
The councillors have also agreed to work with the other authorities involved to find an extra 250 thousand pounds towards this work.
