11 tower blocks for Streatham Campus

New plans for Exeter University have been revealed

New accommodation for first year students at Exeter University have been revealed.

There will be 11 tower blocks, ranging from three to eight storeys high, which will include a total of 1,182 bedrooms. Development will take place in two phases with the hope of completion by September 2021.

Statements submitted to planners add that communal and ancillary facilities (including laundry and reception, cycle store, study rooms and plant) will be provided across the site.

They continue: “The East Park site has been marked for development for the University’s use since the 1970s and forms part of the University’s 2010 masterplan. This project is one of several significant investments being made at the University as part of its commitment to offering the best student experience possible, and to help continue attracting high-calibre students and staff.

“The University of Exeter has a planned growth strategy to the period up to 2026. As part of this the campus needs to provide for this growth whilst reducing pressure on the city’s housing stock by providing accommodation on campus.

“This planned development will ensure that the university are able to offer all first year students accommodation on campus.”

More than 400 trees will be planted and there will be newly created meadows to the north and the east of the site that will provide a buffer between the site and the surrounding residential areas.
