Devon and Cornwall police could get a private sponsorship deal to boost resources. Dorset's Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill has suggested all five forces in the south west consider a deal.
The idea could be discussed at the south west's police and crime commissioner meeting later this month.
Martyn Underhill claims it would boost resources at a time when police forces are facing cuts of up to 20% by 2015.
In a statement, police and crime commissioner Tony Hogg has said he's not dismissing the idea but that a lot of work would need to be done to assess the full impact on policing
