Devon and Cornwall police have announced plans for closer collaboration with the Dorset force, in response to continuing cuts in Government funding.
The two forces have agreed to set up a project team with a view to establishing a 'strategic alliance'.
They say the two forces have similar geography and a mix of urban and rural communities - and they hope that that by working together they can avoid further reductions in the service they provide.
