With Devon and Cornwall police's anti-drink driving crackdown underway, officers say they'd ideally like to see a lowering of the legal alcohol limit.
The road safety charity BRAKE says nationally, around 65 people a year are killed by motorists who've been drinking but are legally still safe to drive.
Inspector Richard Pryce from the Devon and Cornwall roads policing unit says new procedures being introduced will make it simpler to prosecute drink-drive offenders, but ministers have stopped short of lowering the legal limit.
